Welcome to Saint LUKE, KASHORERO PARISH – ARCHDIOCESE OF MBARARA

Greetings, my name is Fr Bruno Tumuramye, Pastor of St Luke Kashorero Catholic parish. I am responsible for thirty churches which might be better described as out-stations. The parish is quite hilly, and I have sole responsibility for an area approximately thirty three miles across. I took up Pastorship of this remote parish in August 2019. This is an unusually poor parish mainly because of really bad transport links, lack of Educational opportunities and high Unemployment. Most people survive by growing their own food in small gardens and selling whatever little is left over to buy essentials like clothes, firewood, and even water during the dry season. Some families struggle to survive and are forced to ask for assistance from the meager parish coffers which are usually lacking to provide the assistance necessary.

on the bright side I am blessed with extremely faithful and practising Christians.

Parishioners wake early in the morning and walk over 17 miles to have confession, attend adoration and the Mass at the parish. On every Thursday of the week, I conduct Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 6:00 am and we conclude it with Mass at 1:00 pm and Christians greatly attend this. I also hold Charismatic prayers on every last Thursday of the month (many Christians travel on the previous evening and we start at 6:00 am): during this, we do praise and worship, adoration, have teachings and then conclude it at 2:00 pm with Mass so that Christians can walk back home. Education and Social Work:

My parishioners are predominantly uneducated. Most have not gone to school. As a result, many parents don’t value education and are not bothered about taking children to school. In Uganda there are State schools but not as good as private and Church founded schools. Parents who want good education for their children pay tuition fees of $600 (about €570 ) for a whole school year. There are three semesters in a school year and each costs $200 – about €190 . Some parents who desire to educate their children lack the tuition fee. For example, one woman, Angelabina, was abandoned by her husband for producing only girl children. As a single mother she could not afford to pay tuition for her five girls. Neither can she sufficiently provide for them food, clothes, medical care and all the supports they need.

Helping Families

We greatly depend on donations from outside the Parish due to the very poor Parishioners the Monthly Tithes only amount to around $70.00. There are many ways that you can help from simply supporting our Facebook page, or getting the message out to friends and family. We would also be very grateful for  donations of clothing, school books, toys “please message me for further details as to what is needed at present”.

If you can afford it… A single or monthly donation of even the smallest amount would go a very long way in alleviating the grinding poverty of our beautiful Parish.
