Father Bruno - Uganda

Welcome

Greetings, I’m Fr. Bruno Tumuramye, and I had the honour of serving as Parish Priest of St Luke Kashorero Catholic Parish from August 2019. Together, we accomplished so much, from improving educational access to expanding church services and offering vital support to families in need, all while overseeing thirty churches in this vast and rural parish.

In October 2024, I handed over my responsibilities to Fr. Godwin Tumuhairwe, following my appointment as Rector of St Augustine Minor Seminary, Rwera. Though moving on was bittersweet, I am now embracing this new chapter, focusing on nurturing young seminarians and building a stronger future for the seminary.

I am truly grateful for the love and support you’ve shown me, and I continue to trust in God’s guidance as I serve in this new capacity.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Fr. Bruno Tumuramye

Welcome to St Augustine Minor Seminary, Rwera

St Augustine Minor Seminary, Rwera, is a place dedicated to the spiritual and academic formation of young men preparing for a life of service in the Catholic Church. As Rector, I am deeply committed to nurturing the minds and hearts of our seminarians, ensuring they grow not only in knowledge but also in faith and character.

Though the seminary faces challenges, particularly with enrolment and the economic hardships of many families, we remain steadfast in our mission. Our goal is to provide a solid foundation for these young men, equipping them to become future leaders in the Church and society.

With the support of the community and God’s guidance, I am hopeful that we can continue to improve the seminary’s infrastructure, offer quality education, and cultivate a nurturing environment where vocations can flourish. Together, we work to glorify God in all that we do, shaping the future of the Church, one seminarian at a time.

The goals of St Augustine Minor Seminary, Rwera are centred around forming young men who are dedicated to living out their vocation and serving the Catholic Church. These goals include:

  1. Spiritual Formation
Developing a deep, personal relationship with God through regular prayer, reflection, and the sacraments. The seminary aims to nurture a strong spiritual life, preparing seminarians for a life of holiness and service.

  2. Academic Excellence
Providing a solid educational foundation in theology, philosophy, and general studies. This ensures that seminarians are well-prepared for further studies and equipped with the knowledge they need for effective ministry.

  3. Moral and Character Development
Cultivating virtues such as integrity, humility, compassion, and leadership. The seminary seeks to shape men of strong moral character who can lead by example in both the Church and wider society.

  4. Vocation Discernment
Helping young men discern their calling, whether to the priesthood or other paths of service within the Church. Through guidance and mentorship, the seminary offers the support needed for each seminarian to discover and embrace their vocation.

  5. Community and Pastoral Service
Encouraging seminarians to actively engage with the local community through pastoral work and outreach. This instils a sense of responsibility and compassion for others, fostering a spirit of service and leadership.

  6. Personal Growth
Supporting the overall development of each seminarian, helping them grow intellectually, emotionally, and socially, so that they are well-rounded individuals ready to take on the responsibilities of ministry.

By focusing on these goals, St Augustine Minor Seminary aims to prepare young men to be future leaders in the Church, grounded in faith and equipped to serve the people of God.

As Rector of St Augustine Minor Seminary, my role is to guide and support the seminarians and the broader seminary community in fulfilling its mission. Here’s how I can contribute:

  1. Spiritual Guidance
I provide spiritual direction and mentorship to help seminarians deepen their faith, nurture their vocation, and grow in their relationship with God. Through regular Mass, prayer, retreats, and spiritual counselling, I ensure they remain grounded in their spiritual journey.

  2. Educational Leadership
By overseeing the academic programmes, I work to ensure seminarians receive a well-rounded education, both in theology and general studies. I collaborate with educators to maintain high standards of academic excellence, preparing seminarians for further theological study and their future ministry.

  3. Fostering a Nurturing Environment
I aim to create a supportive and encouraging atmosphere at the seminary, where seminarians feel valued and guided. This involves addressing both their personal and collective needs, ensuring their growth in character, discipline, and leadership.

  4. Resource Mobilisation
Recognising the financial challenges many seminarians face, I work on securing resources to improve the seminary’s infrastructure and provide scholarships or financial support. This helps ease the burden on families and ensures that economic hardship does not become an obstacle to pursuing a vocation.

  5. Building Partnerships
By reaching out to the Church, benefactors, and the wider community, I seek to foster partnerships that can provide both financial and moral support to the seminary. Together with parishioners and donors, we can improve the facilities, enhance educational opportunities, and support the seminarians in their formation.

  6. Pastoral and Community Engagement
I help seminarians develop a sense of responsibility for the wider community by organising pastoral work, outreach programmes, and opportunities for them to engage in service. This prepares them for the practical aspects of ministry while contributing to the welfare of the local community.

Through these efforts, I am committed to helping the seminary thrive and ensuring our young seminarians receive the best possible formation for their future roles in the Church.
